Banana Pineapple Spinach Green Smoothie

Green smoothies are all the rage now, so I’d thought I’d give it a try. My favorite so far it pretty simple:

Banana Pineapple Spinach Green Smoothie

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of fresh pineapple
  • 1 big handful of fresh baby spinach
  • 1 cup of water (more or less to change thickness)

On my Blendtec, I just put everything in and hit the Whole Juice button, which obliterates pretty much everything.

It’s very tasty–and good for you!

Blended Soup: Tortilla Soup

Tortilla Soup Ingredients

Tortilla Soup Ingredients

After the raw vegetable soup for lunch, I decided to continue on my blending binge and make some more soup for dinner. This one was again from my Blendtec’s recipe book, something called Tortilla Soup Variation. I’m not sure what it’s a variation on, since there’s no other tortilla soup in the book, but, whatever, I didn’t name it.

The recipe’s a bit more complicated than the simple veggie soup I made earlier, but it still is mostly just gathering ingredients and blending them. I also poached a chicken breast and added in the final pulsing step to introduce some meat to the soup, which I think turned out to be a good addition.

Ingredients:

  • 3 Roma tomatoes, halved
  • 2 Tbsp taco seasoning
  • 2 oz. sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 slice of jalapeño pepper
  • 3 sprigs cilantro
  • 1 clove garlic
  • 2 Tbsp onion
  • 1 tsp  chicken bullion
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups hot water
  • large handful tortilla chips
  • 1 poached chicken breast, cut into chunks

Add everything except for the tortilla chips and chicken to the blender and blend with the Soups cycle. Add the chips and chicken and pulse 2 or 3 times, depending on how fine you want your chicken shredded.

Blended Soup: Raw Vegetable Soup

Raw Vegetable Soup Ingredients

Here’s a quick and simple soup that I whipped up in my Blendtec, using the Raw Vegetable Soup recipe that came in the Blendtec recipe book. It took about 5 minutes from start to finish and ended with a smooth, spicy soup that was quite good.

Pre-blend

Blending!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups hot water
  • 1 large carrot
  • 1 celery stalk
  • 1 green scallion
  • 1.5 Tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp chicken bullion
  • Salt & pepper

The soup was smooth, with not an identifiable trace left of any of the vegetables. The green onion and black pepper both give the soup some spiciness, so if you’d like to tone that back a bit, reduce either ingredient as you see fit. I served it with some crackers for a nice, light lunch.

My New Blender

Blendtec Home Total Blender

Blendtec Home Total Blender

It took a bit longer than I had hoped to arrive (such is the life when dealing with APO system), but my Blendtec Home Total Blender was waiting for us at the post office last night. Unpacking and assembling it was easy, since it just has 4 parts: the base, the jar, the lid, and the lid cap. After brushing off a few styrofoam bits left from the packaging, I plugged it in and was ready to blend. Unfortunately, I didn’t have all that many ingredients around, but I rustled up a mango, a banana, and some frozen strawberries left over from last summer. With a cup or so of milk and a press of the smootie button, we had our first smoothies. Sorry, I didn’t think to take a picture, but I’m sure you can figure out what they looked like. They were pretty good for no planning, and I look forward to heading to the grocery store today to get a nice selection of fruit and veggies to make some more smoothies.

Next up? I’ll peruse the extensive recipe book that came with the blender and try some stuff out. I’m thinking about a soup for dinner tomorrow and perhaps some carrot and/or other vegetable juice for a snack.
